APS & HIra School Tabloid Day

Manaia and the story he wrote about Tabloid Sports Day.
Victoria crosses the plank on the obstacle course....pretty tricky!
Rueben and team 4 pull on their end of the rope in the tug of war. They pulled harder!!
Paige and team 11 wait for instructions to start the hoop relay.
Team 3 and Matt listening to Lynnet, who was a parent helper.
Noah competes in the obstacle course.
Our class had a sneaky practice at this activity so we were really good at it.

TE PAPA

The most interesting thing about visiting Te Papa is the giant squid. It didn't have it skin on so you can see it's meat. There's a video you can watch which tells you how big it was, how strong it was and where it was caught.

The squid is in a glass box.

I went in the earthquake house, it was freaky!! I walked on the giant floor mat of New Zealand . I started on Auckland and I ended up on Stewart Island. It was cool. I went all around New Zealand on the floor mat.

I saw a brand new siver car. People were admiring it. I didn't see the price.

I went into another room and I saw a Whale's heart, it was a fake one but you could go inside it.

In the Dinosaur Hall there are two dinosaurs stuck in concrete, I never seen dinosaur before only in books.

It was exciting going to Te Papa.

Our Mallard Duck returns to school

For years now a duck and her drake have been visiting Auckland Point school. Yesterday she brought along her 12 ducklings. I spotted her taking them on a tour of the school, after class.
When I approached her with the camera, she called them close to her and she put her head down and she threatened my bare toes. She was saying, "Back Off, keep away from my ducklings!"
I left them with a tote tray of soggy left over lunch.
It was all gone this morning.... and so was mum duck and her family. I hope she didn't cross Haven Road!

Tideline at APS

On Friday Judy Keylock came to our school. She taught us how to do some new painting skills.
Georgia and I used blue, red and yellow for the stencils.
The class painted the tideline that is going to go up around the school, which will have the clay tiles of creatures and faces on it. The tiles went in a kiln and got fired.
I worked with Georgia.
I painted stencils, I had a special paint brush that you dabbed the paint on with it.
In the end Georgia's and my tideline turned out to be awesome! I was very proud of it.

Judy Keylock came to show us some new patterns we could do on the tideline.
Some of the things we did were painting, blotting, stensilling, detailing. We even used some pens to draw on the paint to make patterns in it. We also used sponges to smudge the paint.

The first colours were orange, green, white, red, silver, purple and blue. The second colours were dark blue, orange, blue, red and pink Then we used the stencils. We all enjoyed it. In the end, we all had paint on our hands.

Today Judy keylock came and taught us art skills. She told us how to paint the planks, layer by layer. First Georgia and I used light blue, then red, yellow and then we used other colours. Ours was very colourful.

Judy Keylock is a good artist at painting. She gave us a piece of wood and we painted it white. Next Matt and Noah and me brushed blue, just in parts. After that we decorated our piece of wood with patterns. Ours was white and blue and yellow. Judy Keylock said "Thats good".

Kapa Haka

String games and stick games in the hall at kapa Haka.
Jazmyn was very quick to learn how to make a cat's cradle. Lucy and Whaitiri had great timing with the sticks.
