When it was school time Amber and I were work buddies. We went outside and
drew our shadows with chalk. After that, we sat in a circle and wrote the words that we needed.
The second day we looked at our shadows again. Some of the chalk had come off the concrete.
Some of our shadows looked a bit taller and to the left side from yesterday.
I know why my shadow changed. It is because the planet was moving.

Our Weekend Adventures
My sisters and I love to play together at the park and at home as well. It is really fun playing with them. We always have fun together every day and when we are with mum we have fun with her, too. When we are with Nan at his house while mums at work that is fun too.

Worm Farmers!
Today Sarah Langi came from the Nelson Environment Centre.
We are to be APS worm farmers! We had to learn about worms and how to look after them.

Kingi of the Worm Farm...
This week we are studying our Star, the Sun... but we have had another sort of star in our room too...
Kingi has been putting in real effort with his number practice and supporting other people's learning too! Check out this video!
Kingi was also a star when Sarah popped in this afternoon to give St Vincent an introduction to our new responsibility - the worm farm! He got stuck in when lots of other people were stepping back! Proud of you Kingi.
You can see in the photo below Sequoia also took the opportunity to bravely tackle the dirt, old veggie scrap smell and worms!
How do you think Kingi was a star today?

The Sun!
Today we had a special guest in our class - The Sun!
We asked him some questions and we got some answers!
Below is a transcript of the conversation.
Ashley: Please introduce yourself to us!
The Sun: "Hello boys and girls. I'm the Sun. I don't want to
brag, but I am a very important source of energy."
Harrison: How do you help small plants?
The Sun: "Plants don't eat like people do. Instead, they use sunlight for energy to grow and stay alive. If there were no plants, what would animals and people eat? You people certainly need me!"
Ricky: How do you help trees?
The Sun: "As a tree grows it stores the sun's energy in its wood. When the wood is
burned, it releases the sun's energy as heat and light."
Eva: What do you have to do with dinosaurs?
The Sun: "Long ago, when the dinosaurs were still alive, plants and animals used the sun's energy. When they died, the sun's energy was stored in them. Today some of these old dead plants and animals with the stored sun's energy have changed into coal, oil and natural gas."
Kingi: Do you help with cars?
The Sun: "When we use gasoline in a car we are using very old sun's energy to make
the car go!"
Sirus: Are you helpful to people?
The Sun: "By myself, I can keep you warm and give you light. I can be used to heat your home and heat your water. You must agree that I'm really quite wonderful!"

Getting Down with some Reading!
Today Cody and I got down to some serious reading with one of St Vincent Room's newest morning students - Charlotte!
We read He Aha Te Taima, Taniwha? (What is the time, monster?) - it is a special book for a few reasons...
It folds open instead of having pages like regular books, it has clocks in it and talks about the time, it has English on one side and exactly the same in Maori on the other and it has the most beautiful colourful illustrations.
Shay was doing work on a different book but couldn't help joining in and Zayden did too!
